A visit from Mrs. Fowler

Carroll welcomed Mrs. Fowler to our library this morning. She gave a presentation on the history of Frisco. She kept the students engaged and involved the entire time. We learned some many facts about our community. She was a wonderful speaker!!

Mrs. Fowler explaining how the animals formed the Shawnee Trail from the Red River down to Mexico. The Shawnee Trail is known as Preston Road today.

She had costumes for students to wear to illustrate a timeline from "Long ago" to 1902.

The students enjoyed her demonstrations of all of the ways a cowboy might use his bandana.

A few students were chosen to hold yard sticks up to their ears to show how long a longhorns horns were.

She discussed how they grew their own food.

Mrs. Fowler talked to the students about what a child's life was like back in the 1900s. They had to pick cotton, wash the dishes, sleep on the ground, help on the farm, etc.

She also had them participate in games that children might have played back then.

One of the most interesting facts was how Frisco got it's red sign. A man was impressed with the skin of a raccoon. He decided that shape should be the sign for the city.

At the end of her presentation, the students were able to look at different artifacts and pictures that she had brought.
