Persuasive Letters
We did a "stand up, pair up" sharing activity this afternoon. The students read their persuasive letters to one another. They helped each other decide if they had convincing arguments and gave positive feedback as well.

Visiting Author
Carroll had the pleasure of hosting Ms. Melissa Sweet today. I loved when she told the students that she had edited her first book 33 times! She said that it's almost impossible to get your writing perfect on the first try. She encouraged them to write and rewrite to make their pieces better.

Reading Salad
Today we reviewed a strategy to help with comprehension. I modeled how to make a "reading salad." Text cards were red for the tomatoes and thinking cards were green for the lettuce. When I read from the book, a red card went in and when I paused to think about my reading, a green card went in. I went back and forth to show them how asking questions while reading can help with their understanding. Then the kids practiced this with a partner. The enjoyed making their own salads.
