Today we reviewed a strategy to help with comprehension. I modeled how to make a "reading salad." Text cards were red for the tomatoes and thinking cards were green for the lettuce. When I read from the book, a red card went in and when I paused to think about my reading, a green card went in. I went back and forth to show them how asking questions while reading can help with their understanding. Then the kids practiced this with a partner. The enjoyed making their own salads.
